How to Update Xperia Z Software to Android 4.4

Why Update?
Just like other Gadgets, such as, computers or digital cameras, your Xperia™ smartphone or tablet has software that will need updating. Updating is our way of bringing you, new bug fixes and improvements in performance, speed and functionality for free. Software updates generally improve stability and enhance the overall user experience of our devices. You may not always directly notice what an update does to your device, but the new software may prevent future problems.

When to Update?
When a new software update is available, an icon will appear in the status bar of your device, indicating that it’s ready to download and install. You can also connect your device to a computer using a USB cable to check for new software.
New software is released all the time. However, the availability and scheduling of software updates will be released at different points depending on model, market and network operator.

How to Update?
Directly on your device, over the air
You can update your software wirelessly, directly from your smartphone. Updates can be fairly large, so use a Wi-Fi® connection if you can. Please note that not all updates are available over the air. The Procedure is as below:
I.                    Select the Update Center App and press search and wait for a moment. In few seconds you will be notified about the availability of New Software Update if there is any.
II.                  Once a notification about new Software Update is give the next step is to download it to your smartphone.
III.                In the third and final round, install the downloaded Software. Once you have finished installing, your device will get shut down automatically which is important to complete the process. After restart enjoy new application, speed and bug fixing.
(Note: As per my own experience, there is possibility that you may not be able to update using your smartphone. If you face such a problem don’t worry try to Update from your PC with internet by the following procedure).
PC Companion
If you have PC, use the PC Companion (PC Companion is an application you'll be required to install on your computer) application to update your smartphone or tablet software. You will need a computer with an Internet connection and a USB cable. The procedure is as below:
I.                    Connect your smartphone to window computer with cable.
II.                  PC Companion will appear automatically, select Software Update option. Wait for a moment then you will get notified if there is any Update available for your device.
III.                Download the Software, install it and then turn off your smartphone. Before turning on the device wait for 5 seconds and unplug it from USB cable. Now press and hold –Vol Button and connect your device with the cable. Hold the Vol Button until your device turns on. If you followed all the steps as they were told to you then your device will turn on automatically with the new Software successfully installed.
(Note: If you have followed all the steps while updating your software but still it was not updated. Don’t worry, turn off your device again and unplug it from the USB cable. Before turning on the device wait for 5 seconds and unplug it from USB cable. Now press and hold –Vol Button and connect your device with the cable. Hold the Vol Button until your device turns on. Hopefully, this time your smartphone will be updated if not try once more. I went through the same problem and repeated these steps and then new Update was successfully installed).
